On August 10th, Prof. Kay Chen Tan from City University of Hong Kong visited School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation and presented a report titled “How to Publish in Scholarly Journals?” in Room 311, South-1 Building. More than 60 teachers and students attended the seminar.
Kay Chen Tan is a professor in City University of Hong Kong, Chair Professor in Chang Jiang Scholars, IEEE Fellow. Currently, he is the chief editor of IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation and editor of more than 10 top international journals. Prof. Kay Chen Tan has published more than 300 papers and 10 monographs and he has been invited to give reports at more than 60 international conferences. He once won the Best Paper Award of IEEE Transactions on Neural Network and Learning Systems, the Best Paper Award of IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine and the Recognition Award of International Network for Engineering Education & Research. His research interests include artificial intelligence and computational intelligence, machine learning and optimization, data mining and operational research.
In his report, Prof. Kay Chen Tan shared his experience as the chief editor of IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation and gave a detailed introduction of paper writing and submission. First, he introduced the relevant academic journals under IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and their classification. Then, he focused on the writing of a high-level academic paper. From the determination of the idea to the writing of each chapter, he gave an in-depth description and analyzed various problems that may be encountered in the process of revising. Last, Prof. Kay Chen Tan gave detailed answers to the problems encountered by the teachers and students themselves in the process of writing and submitting papers.
This report provided a great chance for teachers and students to communicate with the chief editor of academic journals face to face. The report was full of contents and the audience had high interests.
