A Doctoral Student in Our School Won the Best Paper Award on ICARM2019

Jul 8, 2019

The 4th International Conference on Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics (ICARM 2019) was held in Osaka, Japan from July 3rd to 5th. Cao Yu, a Ph.D. student of the School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, finished his paper under the guidance of the instructor Professor Huang Jian. The paper was accepted by this conference and won the “Toshio Fukuda Best Paper Award in Mechatronics”.

Exoskeleton robots are like “external bones” worn on the human body. They can be used to repair and enhance the body’s ability to move. It is one of the hotspots in the field of robotics. By sensing the movement states and intentions of the human body, the exoskeleton robot driver drives the mechanism movement to realize the assistance of the human limb, which has broad prospects in the fields of medical, industrial, military and other fields. However, this kind of human mechatronic system often has strong nonlinearity, parameter time-varying, and uncertainty, which bring great challenges to the control of exoskeleton robots. In response to this challenge, under the guidance of Professor Huang Jian, Cao Yu made an academic report entitled “A Predictive Control for Pneumatic Muscle Actuators Based Exoskeleton by Using MIMO Echo State Network” and won the “Toshio Fukuda Best Paper Award in Mechatronics”.

The International Conference on Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics (ICARM) is the flagship conference for the bio-robot biomechatronics system IEEE-SMC TC and the neuro-robot system IEEE-RAS TC, which is supported by the IEEE SMC Association, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, and the IEEE SMC technology committee. The conference received 178 papers from 23 countries and regions including China, the United States, Japan, Germany, South Korea, Canada, France, Britain, Italy, Greece, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Nicaragua, Peru, Oman and Poland, with a acceptance rate of 52%. It established 4 Best Paper awards including Best Conference Paper Award, Toshio Fukuda Best Paper Award in Mechatronics, and Good Paper Award in Advanced Robotics, Best Paper Award from Students. The conference also invited Academician Ding Han, IEEE Fellow Professor of the City University of Hong Kong, Professor F. Eelichi Yoshida of the IEEE Fellow Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), and other well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad to make a special report. Various forms of academic exchanges, such as forums and oral presentations, were also organized. The accepted papers were accepted by IEEE Explore and retrieved by EI. Some excellent papers will be recommended for publication in SCI and EI journals.
