Artificiality creates brilliance, while intelligence leads the future. From May 25th to 26th, the First Artificial Intelligence Conference and Entrepreneurs Sum---mit Forum in Optics Valley of China was held at the Optics Valley Technology Exhibition Center. Academician Li Yuanyuan, principal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Academician Xiong Youlun jointly served as the chairmen of the conference, and Vice-Principals Xu Xiaodong and Chen Jiang--uo participated in the event. Ma Xiaojie, the executive deputy secretary of the school Party committee and vice-principal, presided over the opening ceremony.
At the opening ceremony of the conference, Cao Guangjing, deputy governor of Hubei Province, pointed out that accelerating the development of a new ge--neration of artificial intelligence was a major strategic issue about whether China could grasp the opportunities of a new round of scientific and technological rev-olution and industrial transformation. He hoped that the guests would take advantage of the conference as a platform to deepen exchanges, promote consensus, share results, and contribute wisdom and momentum to the high-quality development of Hubei Province.
John E. Hopcroft, the Turing Award winner, academician of the American Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Arts and Sci-ences, and professor of Cornell University, said that the School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation in Huazhong University of Science and Technology wo-uld have a profound impact on AI research and application, and improve the educational level of AI in China. He was looking forward to contributing his wisdo-m in the development of the college.
Li Yuanyuan pointed out that Huazhong University of Science and Technology had a profound accumulation in the field of artificial intelligence, and the sch-ool would carry out international and domestic cross-border cooperation with innovative ideas and open minds. At the historical threshold of global economic c--ompetition and technological competition triggered by a new round of artificial intelligence, Huazhong University of Science and Technology is willing to work t-ogether with all walks of life to cultivate artificial intelligence talents, create basic theoretical knowledge, develop core key technologies, promote related industr--y development, practice technology applications, and safeguard applied ethics.
Experts and scholars from universities and research institutions at home and abroad have made wonderful keynote speeches. Academician Chen Jie, preside-nt of Tongji University, gave a report entitled “Cooperative Control and Optimization of Autonomous Unmanned Systems”; Academician Ding Lieyun of Huaz-hong University of Science and Technology gave a report entitled “Construction of Data driven Intelligent Services”; Academician Xu Zongben of Xi’an Jiaoto-ng University introduced two major categories of concept learning and empirical learning in small sample learning in his report “Small Sample Learning in the Co-ntext of Big Data”; Academician Qian Feng, vice-president of East China University of Science and Technology, gave a speech entitled “The Industrial Intellige-nt System of Human Machine Inclusion Process——on the deep integration of artificial intelligence and process manufacturing”; Academician Gui Weihua of Central South University gave a report entitled “Several Problems of Artificial Intelligence in Helping the Upgradation of Manufacturing Industry”; Academician Mao Xinping, vice president of the R&D Center of Baosteel and Hubei Association For Science and Technology, gave a report entitled “The Application of Arti-ficial Intelligence in the Steel Industry”; Zong Qinghou, founder of Hangzhou Wahaha Group, gave a report entitled “Innovative Exploration of Wahaha in the Smart Age”; Wang Haikun, executive deputy dean of IFLYTEK Research and Development Institute, gave a speech entitled “Thinking and Practice of Artificial Intelligence Industry Empowerment”; Qi Yuan, chief AI scientist and vice-president of Ant Financial Service Group, made a report entitled “The Inclusive Finan-ce of AI Empowerment”; Han Bingtao, chief expert of ZTE’s AI sector, introduced ZTE’s efforts, challenges and future directions in network intelligence with the report “Application of AI in Communication Network”.
