Professor Jian Huang Won the Gold Award in the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva

Apr 5, 2017

In the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva from March 29th to April 2nd, “The upper-limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot controlled by patient’s motion intention” won the gold award. It was invented by the team which Prof. Jian Huang participated in.

By analyzing the information such as the motion intention of the eyeball fixation point and human-computer interaction force of patients with motor nerve dysfunction, the robot can recognize patient’s motion intention, create a human-machine interface and make patient participate and control the robot voluntarily to complete the rehabilitation training tasks. The robot can significantly stimulate the patient’s enthusiasm for participation and improve the treatment effect as well as shorten the treatment time. It is especially suitable for the rehabilitation treatment of early myasthenia and the patient who need intensive rehabilitation training in the later stage. The research achievements have been transformed into practical application, which received praises from experts and scholars both at home and abroad. This project was led by Prof. Caihua Xiong from School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of HUST.

The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, founded in 1973, is an annual large-scale international exhibition sponsored by the Swiss Federal Government and the Geneva Municipal Government. It is also one of the largest and most influential inventions exhibitions in the world. Enterprises, institutions and individuals from about 40 countries and regions brought nearly 1,000 inventions to this exhibition. More than ten universities from China such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, China University of Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Shanghai University of Technology, Northeast University, Southeast University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology participated in this exhibition.

Since the 43rd exhibition, School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation has participated with excellent inventions every year. This is the first time that the research achievements of School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation have won a gold award in the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. Previously, research achievements “A real-time accurate measurement method for magnetic nanometer temperature under triangular wave excitation magnetic field” of Prof. Wenzhong Liu’s team and “Walking aid robot with falling protection rod” of Professor Jian Huang’s team won the silver award of the 43rd and 44th exhibition, respectively. It effectively enhances the international influence of the intellectual property achievements of School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation.
