Image processing and intelligent control are at the forefront of information science and have enormous potential in clinical applications, national defense, social security, and industrial production. In 1993, the MOE Laboratory of Image Processing and Intelligent Control was approved by the National Education Commission and was then established in Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The laboratory aims at solving the most urgent problems and pushing back frontiers in the related research fields. In 2013, The Laboratory decided that its research directions should include:

Complex system analysis, optimization, and decision-making;

Intelligent control and automatic systems;

Image analysis and processing;

Biological information processing and cognitive computing;

Multidimensional information measurement and cognition.
