On August 8th, 2019, Prof. Yang Shi, Academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, visited School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation and presented a report titled “Event-Triggered Model Predictive Control for Networked Dynamic Systems”. More than 30 teachers and students attended the seminar.
Prof. Shi’s research interests include cyber-physical system, network and distributed control system, model predictive control, design and control of mechanical and electrical system and robot system, optimal dispatching and control of energy system. He has won many awards: in 2007, he won the Best Teaching Award of University of Sakatchewan, Canada; in 2012, he won the Best Teaching Award of Engineering Institute, University of Victoria; in 2013, he won the Visiting Professorship Award of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science; in 2015, he won the Craigdarroch Silver Medal of University of Victoria; and in 2017, he won the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. A paper that he co-wrote with his students won the Best Paper Award of IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems in 2017. At present, he is the chair of the Technical Committee on Cyber-Physical Systems of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, the co-editor of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and associate editor of many international journals such as Automatica, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics and IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics. Prof. Shi is IEEE Fellow, ASME Fellow and CSME Fellow.
The atmosphere of the report was warm. After the report, teachers and students asked questions and Prof. Shi patiently answered them. Teachers and students said that the report not only transferred new knowledge, but also broadened their thinking and methods of scientific research, and they were deeply inspired and greatly benefited.
