On January 19th, 2018, Elsevier officially released the list of Chinese Highly Cited Researchers in 2017. This list selected a total of 1,793 scholars, of whom 34 scholars were from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, ranking 8th in the mainland universities.
Eight teachers from School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation were selected into this list, ranking first in HUST. They are Zhigang Zeng (Computer Science), Linqiang Pan (Computer Science), Wenbing Tao (Computer Science), Zhigong Guan (Control and System Engineering), Dong Yue (Control and System Engineering), Renbin Xiao (Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering), Xiaoxin Liao (Mathematics) and Min Ouyang (Safety, Risk, Reliability and Quality).
Adopting the method and standard developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, the list of Chinese Highly Cited Researchers is obtained by analyzing the objective statistics of the global influence of Chinese researchers. Elsevier’s Scopus database provides data and technical support for this list. As the world’s largest database of literature abstract and citation, Scopus contains more than 20,000 peer-reviewed journals, including more than 500 Chinese journals. In the collected literature of the Scopus database, there are more than 3 million copies of the author’s address including Chinese (mainland) institutions, and more than 4 million copies of the authors’ names.
