A few days ago, the Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs released the results of the establishment of “Overseas Expertise Introduction Project for Discipline Innovation” (“111 Project” for short) in 2018. The “Discipline Innovation and Overseas Expertise Introduction Base of Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Control” led by Prof. Zhigang Zeng from School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation was approved. It becomes the 8th Discipline Innovation and Overseas Expertise Introduction Base.

This base gathered 14 overseas academic researchers from famous universities such as Purdue University and Northwest University, and 14 domestic outstanding researchers represented by Prof. Zhigang Zeng. Through long-term and in-depth international cooperation, the base can actively promote the development of related fields of computational intelligence and intelligent control, train a group of young top-notch talents, and promote the research level and international competitiveness of control science and engineering.

The “111 Project” is implemented by the Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. By building world-class discipline innovation and overseas expertise introduction bases, this project aims at increasing the efforts of introducing overseas talents and gathering a group of world-class talents in university so as to promote the integration of overseas talents and domestic researchers and form an international academic team. This project can promote high-level cooperative research, high-level talented person cultivating and high-quality academic interchanges. And it focuses on building a number of disciplines with independent innovation capabilities, which can enhance the scientific and technological innovation ability and overall competitiveness of the university.
